Attempts
Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!
- Munya immediately enlists Alex's throwing arm in his plan to catch - in a bucket - a tennis ball thrown over the house, while perched atop the shoulders of the statue of Greg. He keeps insisting Alex throw with more power, after each failed attempt, which eventually prompts Alex to swear under his breath in frustration. Eventually Alex is able to land the ball in the bucket several times, despite his worn-out shoulder, but it keeps bouncing back out again, and Munya never actually catches it. He therefore earns last place in the task.
- John immediately drifts off into a vivid childhood memory of catching an American football from his father. He then decides he is going to hit a ball over the house with a tennis racket, and catch it himself, but he is never able to make it all the way around in time. He is eventually able to catch one of his balls, after reducing his ambition about it travelling over the house. In the studio, Greg says that John reminds him of a kid from his primary school called Morgan, who had been sent home one day after trying to "eat the hood off his own coat". John earns fourth place for his effort.
- Fern's immediate instinct is that the task is about catching a fish, bird, or person. She then goes very lateral with the task, with her attempt showing her flying up into the night sky ("powered only by turquoise fart", according to Greg) and catching a falling star. She earns second place for her effort.
- Sarah's first instinct is to try to catch an infectious disease from someone. She then goes with a similarly lateral idea by being shown 'catching fire' - apparently holding flames in both of her outstretched hands, and then 'blowing' them both out with her breath. However, Alex can be seen in the footage, running around in the background with a fire extinguisher, to put out the flames, which Sarah had assumed would be edited out. Greg awards her third place, blaming Alex for ruining the magic of the video.
- Dara plays two characters in his video: some kind of Eastern European(?) mother, pushing her child in a pushchair, and a suave hero who catches the child, once the pushchair careens out of control on the driveway, colliding with a BMX, and catapulting the baby into the air. When prompted by Greg, Dara titles his film "Oooh my baby", based on the main line of dialogue. He earns first place for his effort.
