Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • John initially claims he has brought in a maze, but then has to admit that he's actually just brought in a single Leylandii tree (often used in the creation of hedge mazes). Greg awards the tree third place.
  • Sarah brings in the complete works of Shakespeare, which she says she takes into her garden every time it's sunny. After Greg's initially unimpressed response, she salvages her prize by admitting that she uses the book to keep her Magnum ice cream wrapper from flying away, rather that for reading. Greg awards her first place for "making the Bard relevant to a modern audience".
  • Dara brings in a thermometer which he says proves that he was an advertising model in 1920s France, as it features an illustration of a man, holding a bottle of olive oil, who looks remarkably like him. Greg awards him second place.
  • Fern brings in a fancy outdoor pizza oven. She then admits that she doesn't really enjoy spending time in her garden because she lives in an area of southeast London where she has to overhear drugdealers arguing, and women dry-heaving, if she goes outside. Greg awards the pizza oven last place, based on the fact that it looked like Fern had set fire to the outside of it.
  • Munya brings in a representation of a blackbird he'd named Smooth Rupert, who he'd met when he first moved to Norwich from Zimbabwe. Smooth Rupert is wearing a red baseball cap and a giant golden medallion. Greg awards Smooth Rupert fourth place.
