Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Get this tarpaulin completely in one of the containers.

You have a maximum of five minutes, and you must select your container before touching the tarpaulin.

Also you must tidy everything up within those five minutes.

Smallest container successfully filled with the tarpaulin wins.

Your time starts after you've selected your container, and you must select your container within the next 30 seconds.

Task notes

  • The task takes place on the driveway of the Taskmaster house, where a large tarpaulin has been laid out on the ground.
  • Next to the tarpaulin are a barrel, a sleeping bag, a laundry hamper (possibly full of laundry?), a bread bin (full of 1p and 2p coins), a pedal bin, a black bin bag (full of rubber ducks), a suitcase (full of marbles and cutlery), and a wheelie bin (full of red balloons).
  • Beneath the tarpaulin, there is a toy rubber snake, for some reason.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Dara selects the laundry hamper, empties its contents into the barrel, very tidily folds up the tarpaulin, and fits it perfectly into the container. He neglects to replace the lid of the barrel, however, so earns second place.
  • Sarah selects the laundry hamper, empties its contents onto the ground, very tidily folds up the tarpaulin, and fits it into the container. She uses some duct tape to help hold the lid of the laundry hamper down, and then moves its former contents into the barrel, along with the rubber snake that she found under the tarpaulin, replacing the lid. She earns first place in the task.
  • Munya selects the bread bin, which he quickly discovers is full of coins. He tips the coins into the wheelie bin, and sets about trying to fit the massive tarpaulin into his bread bin. Although he does a decent job of folding it up tightly, it is just not physically possible to fit it inside the tiny container he has selected. In complete denial, he keeps insisting that the tarpaulin is 'inside' the bread bin, even though the vast majority of it is not. In the studio, he stated that he thought that perhaps there would be an open sewer beneath the breadbin, giving him a lot more space than immediately apparent. Greg awards him last place for getting the least tarpaulin into his selected container.
  • John selects the wheelie bin, which he discovers is half full of inflated balloons. He removes the balloons with absolutely no plan about what he's going to do with them, and then stands holding them for 80 seconds, before replacing them where they came from. Instead of attempting to fold the tarpaulin up in an efficient manner, he simply gathers it all together and scrunches it up before trying to stuff it in to the bin. He eventually realises that the balloons are taking up valuable space, so abandons his stuffing to remove and burst them. He then returns to his tarpaulin stuffing technique, but is unable to get the whole thing inside in time. He earns fourth place, based on the amount of the tarpaulin he managed to get in.
  • Fern selects the suitcase, and then begins complaining about how she's being asked to do tidying, which she finds boring. She eventually discovers that the suitcase already has some contents, tipping out the marbles and cutlery onto the ground. As she folds the tarpaulin up, Alex reminds her that she also has to clean up after herself, which she doesn't believe. As she crams the tarpaulin inside the suitcase, she questions how people ever manage to get bodies inside them. She manages to get the tarpaulin inside, though the suitcase is not completely fastened, and she makes no effort to clear up the cutlery and marbles all over the floor. She earned third place in the task.
