Task brief

The task brief is attached to the top of a dry-erase board on an easel, in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Completely colour this whiteboard.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • On the shelf of the board are three thin markers – one red, one green, and one blue – all of which are apparently already running low on ink.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Eija starts scribbling on the board, using all three markers at once. She asks Pilvi if she’s meant to completely block out any white areas of the board, or if the task meant that the markers just needed to have passed over all parts of the board. Eija colours with no real plan, simply scribbling all over the board, until she finally declares that she has finished. Eija earns joint last place. In the studio banter after this task and before the next one, the running joke of the episode continues, with Pirjo declaring how stupid she thinks the show is. Eija counters that she thinks the show is fantastic, and asks Jaakko for more points. Jaakko complies, awarding Eija a bonus point.
  • Kalle picks up the blue marker and starts to colour, glaring at Pilvi as he does. He eventually speeds up, and covers the rest of the board by systematically colouring one row at a time. At some point, Kalle begins using all three markers at once. While colouring the bottom of the board, Kalle accidentally breaks off the shelf that holds the markers. Eventually, he declares that he has finished, though he admits that ‘completely coloured’ will need to be officially defined. When that statement is challenged by Jaakko in the studio, Kalle justifies it by stating that an unused piece of paper would be deemed used once a pencil has made a mark on it, even if the rest of the paper has yet to be touched by the pencil. Kalle earns joint last place.
  • Pirjo reads the task and immediately panics, frantically starting to colour the board while complaining that her marker is already close to running out of ink. Eventually Pirjo uses two markers at once, still muttering about them being dry, and wondering out loud if Kalle had started the task with fresh markers. Pirjo continues to frantically scribble on the board with no real plan, until she finally declares that she has finished. She earns joint last place.
  • Fathi reads the task, then turns and looks at the markers. After thinking about it, Fathi declares that he will colour the board with something other than the markers. He goes to the shed and finds a lot of paint, which he loads onto a tray and brings back to the lab. Fathi lays the whiteboard on the ground and squeezes paint directly onto it. After emptying several tubes of paint onto the board, Fathi uses a few brushes to blend them together and completely colour the board. He colours the board in 4 minutes and 14 seconds, and earns second place.
  • Erin immediately picks up the red marker and begins to colour in the board, before declaring that completely colouring the board with the markers will be impossible. She leaves the lab and runs to the shed, where she finds a tube of orange paint, a paintbrush, and a bum sledge that she repurposes as a paint palette. Erin returns to the lab, squeezes the orange paint onto her makeshift palette, and starts to paint the whiteboard. At points she uses the palette itself to smear paint onto the board. She colours the board in 3 minutes and 34 seconds, winning the task.
