Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Walk around the chairs, listening to Greg's story, then sit on a chair when you hear a word containing two letter 'L's.

If you stop walking, or touch a chair incorrectly, you are disqualified.

If you fail to sit on a chair when you hear a word containing two letter 'L's, you are disqualified.

Best listener wins.

Task notes

  • The contestants are lined up on stage in front of a row of four chairs.
  • With each round of the game, one chair is removed, so there is always one less than the number of contestants remaining.
  • Although the task brief specifies that the contestants will be disqualified if they stop walking, touch a chair incorrectly, or fail to sit down, they are actually just eliminated from the game itself, and receive points based on which round they were eliminated from.
  • The type of word that the contestants are listening out for also changes with each round: in the first round, they are listening for a word containing two 'L's ('little'); in the second round, they are listening for a word containing a 'U' ('lucky'); in the third round, they are listening for a word which starts and ends with the same letter (it's not known what this would have been, as Frankie jumps the gun on sitting down); and in the fourth and final round, they are listening for a six-letter word ('little' again).
  • The first of Greg's stories begins as follows: "The sun was setting. The light was magical, and the water lapped at the shore of the lake. 'Right.', said Greg, 'Get your clothes off. You're going in.' 'I don't want to.', said the scrawny, sausage-shaped man. 'I need you to retrieve the stone I just threw in.', whispered Greg, noisily, 'It's one of my favourite stones, I think.' And so little Alex Horne...".
  • Greg's second story is "In the morning, I like to have a pot of coffee and a slice of cake. Little Alex Horne brings them in when I ring my little bell. I let him wear his yellow cape, if he is a very lucky boy.".
  • His third story begins "These are the closing rules the Taskmaster expects those around him to adhere to at all times. One, the shirt should be tucked in. Really tucked in. Right in! Two...", but he does not reach the end.
  • His final story is as follows: "I don't remember much about that fateful night. It was cold. The moon was full, I know that. I'm not an idiot. And I can't be held responsible for the terrible accident that happened to little Alex Horne."

Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Frankie was eliminated third after sitting down too early in the third round. He received 3 points.
  • Ivo was eliminated fourth after failing to sit down in time during the final round. He received 4 points.
  • Jenny was eliminated second after she was shoulder-barged off of a chair by Frankie. She received 2 points.
  • Kiell was eliminated first as he accidentally touched a chair early and failed to sit on one in time. He received 1 point.
  • Mae was the last contestant on a chair, so received 5 points.
