Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Combine two of your things to equal the height of the thing said by Greg.

You may not use any of your things twice.

Worst guess each round is eliminated.

Task notes

  • The contestants are lined up on stage, in front of a red curtain.
  • Each contestant has a bucket containing paddles with the names of a specific set of items written on them, and a red wooden post with a thick strip of velcro on its front.
  • In each round, they have 30 seconds to select two paddles with the names of the items they wish to combine to simulate the height of the thing read out by Greg.
  • The items named on the paddles are: a cello, a space hopper, a traffic cone, a warthog, a meerkat, a standing chicken, and a sitting chicken.
  • The paddles are then exchanged, through the curtain, for cardboard cut-outs of the items, which the contestants must affix to their posts.
  • Alex then brings out a life-sized cardboard cut-out of the thing in question, to compare against the contestants' estimates.
  • In the first round, Greg asks them to estimate the height of the actor Reese Witherspoon (which is apparently equal to a chicken sitting on a cello).
  • In the second round, Greg asks them to estimate the height of his own inside leg measurement (which apparently equal to a meerkat on a space hopper).
  • In the third round, Greg asks them to estimate the height of an adult male alpaca.
  • By the final round, the remaining contestants have already exchanged all but one of their paddles, so they have to swap their remaining one for its relevant cardboard cut-out, and hope that it is closest to the height of the Star Wars character Yoda.
  • In the event of a tied last place in a round, the tied contestants must estimate the total height of their combined selected items in centimetres, and the one with the closest estimate goes through to the next round.
