Task brief

The task brief is held by David, who is standing in a grassed common area near the Bäst i Test house. The brief for the task is as follows:

Throw a flavour into the dumpster.

You must be standing behind the rope.

You may not move the dumpster, the rope, or the table.

The person who throws the – in David’s opinion – worst flavour into the dumpster wins.

Your first hit in the dumpster is what counts.

You have 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Next to David, there is a table upon which there are 10 small plates, each holding a small plastic bag full of mixed food.
  • There is also a ranked menu of ‘David’s favourite tastes’ on the table, which includes, in descending order of tastiness: hamburger and fries, huevos rancheros, tacos, marmalade sandwich, spaghetti with tomato sauce, sour milk and cornflakes, cheese plate, gorgonzola pizza, pea soup, and mixed raw fish.
  • Each bag of food has an obvious identifying tape marker on it, presumably to aid the production crew in knowing which is which. It’s uncertain if there was a sneaky way for the contestants to utilise these markers for their own benefit.
  • Next to the table, there are two stanchions connected with a red velvet rope, from behind which the contestants must make their throws.
  • Some distance away from the table, there is a small dumpster.
  • The task is introduced in the show by the pun name ‘kastronomi’ (with ‘kast’ meaning ‘throw’, and ‘gastronomi’ meaning ‘gastronomy’).
  • While there are obvious parallels between this and the ‘Identify the mystery flavours’ task (particularly the version involving doggy-bags full of mystery blended foods), it is categorised as original here, as success in this task is not dictated by successful identification of the most amount of flavours.
