Task brief

The task brief is attached to a rope hanging from the ceiling in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Arrange the seven things in a straight line on the table according to how many sides they have.

You can only touch things with your face.

You have 10 minutes.

You must wear the goggles correctly during the entire task.

Most correct arrangement wins.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The other end of the rope is attached to a large cloth, which is concealing seven objects on the table beneath: a large ice cube in the shape of a pyramid; an open-topped glass cube containing coloured water; a wheel of Brie cheese; a jelly moulded into a hexagonal form; an egg; a piece of paper; and a book.
  • Next to the cloth, there is a pair of black-out goggles for the contestants to wear.
  • The banana normally present in adaptations of this task has been replaced by a book – specifically, a copy of Jeg ser på fugle (‘I watch birds’) published by Politikens Forlag. This switch appears to have been made for one reason: the Danish word for ‘sides’ (‘siden’) can also mean ‘pages’.
  • Officially, according to the show: the egg has 1 side; the paper has 2 sides; the Brie has 3 sides; the ice pyramid has 5 sides; the jelly has 8 sides; the cube has 10 sides; the book has 216 sides/pages.
