Task briefs
The initial task brief is laid on the table in the living room. The second task brief is handed to the contestants by Mike in the living room. The briefs for the task are as follows:
Leave this room in exactly one minute from now.
Sit in the lab for three minutes.
Then when the alarm goes off, re-enter the room.
Say what has changed.
Most correct answers wins.
Every incorrect answer will lose you two correct answers.
You have three minutes.
Your time starts now.
Task notes
- Mike begins his own one minute timer once the first task brief has been read, and there is no requirement for the contestants to keep track of time themselves. The first minute is intended to give the contestants an opportunity to observe their surroundings, but since they are not aware of the upcoming challenge, and all infer that they’re supposed to be estimating when a minute is up, this is where their attention is focused.
- When they arrive in the lab, the contestants find a timer on the table which lets them know when three minutes have passed, and it’s time to return to the living room.
- While the contestants are in the lab, the following changes are made in the living room:
- The table and chair have been replaced with miniature versions (this is counted as two separate changes).
- The red lampshade on the standing lamp has been swapped out for a green one.
- The small plastic cow, giant strawberry, and very curvy banana on the top shelf below Rose’s portrait have been replaced with a small rubber duck, a pineapple, and an aubergine, respectively (three separate changes).
- Four different fake moustaches have been added to the four copies of Rose’s face, on her portrait.
- A book titled ‘Hey Kid, This Book Wasn’t Here Before’ has been added to the wall-mounted bookshelf next to the window.
- A person dressed as a crow is seated on the divan beneath the window (it was revealed on the relevant episode of the official Taskmaster podcast that this was one of the members of the production team).
- A photo of the contestant has been added to one of the frames on the wall above the fireplace.
- A disco ball has been hung from the ceiling in the centre of the room.
- The two ceramic dogs on the mantelpiece have been replaced with small cardboard cut-outs of Greg Davies and Alex Horne.
- Mike is sat on a wooden umpire’s chair, rather than his usual armchair.
- Patatas the cat has been placed in front of the fireplace.
- Mike is wearing a tie with rubber ducks printed on it, rather than his usual knitted tie.
