Task brief

The task brief is laid at the starting line of the Babben race course, in the park. The brief for the task is as follows:

Run the Babben-race.

If you violate a rule, David will blow his whistle, and you must start over from the beginning.

Fastest over the finish line wins.

Your time starts on David’s signal.

Task notes

A short, straight track has been marked out with rope and wooden stakes in the park.
David is seated in an umpire chair, halfway along the course.
Although there are signs marking the halfway and finish lines of the race, they are also marked by lines actually painted on the grass, in case any contestants try to simply move the markers and redefine the boundaries of the race.
The rule which the contestants must adhere to, to successfully complete the race, is that they cannot cross the midway marker of the course with their hands below their ears. This rule is written on David’s clipboard, should the contestants think to take it from him.
The overall conceit for the task – that the contestants must follow rules that they only learn about along the way – is reminiscent of the ‘Build a tower and avoid being shocked’ task.
