Mastertask notes:

In this version of the task, the contestants are scored based on how many of the balls they are able to transfer within a given time limit, rather than on how quickly they are able to move all of the balls. Also, both of the jars have holes cut into their bottoms, rather than just the ‘this’ jar.

Task brief

The task brief is held between some wooden tongs, on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get the most balls from ‘this’ bottle to ‘that’ bottle.

You may not touch the balls with your hands.

Most balls in ‘that’ bottle after five minutes wins.

Task notes

Also on the table, there is a spatula, some duct tape, a dustpan and brush, and two large plastic bottles from water-coolers.
The bottle on the left is labelled ‘DENNE’ (‘THIS’), and is full of ping pong balls and bouncy rubber balls, while the one on the right is labelled ‘DEN’ (‘THAT’), and is empty.
The label on the left bottle also has the advice ‘IKKE LØFT’ (‘DON’T LIFT’) printed on it, in smaller text. This warning is because the bottom of both bottles has been cut out, so lifting the one which is full of balls will result in many of them immediately falling out of the bottom (as all of the contestants soon discover).
