Task briefs

The initial task brief is laid on a plinth inside The Gothic Temple at Painshill Park. The subsequent briefs for each event are handed to the contestants by Alex, in the same location. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Win the Pealympics.

There are five events.

The top two performers in each event get a medal.

Most medals wins.

Work out which pillow the pea is under in the fewest guesses.

You may not tamper with the pillow before guessing.

You have three minutes.

Balance your pea on the highest tower of carrots.

You have three minutes.

Catch a pea fired from the pea catapult.

If you catch a pea in one hand, your time is divided by two.

If you catch a pea in your mouth, your time is divided by five.

Throw a pea the furthest.

Find your thrown pea the fastest.

You have a maximum of three minutes.

Your time started when you opened the task.

Task notes

On the floor next to the plinth where the contestants begin the task, there is a basket full of carrots.
Alex is stood at the left-hand side of the temple, next to another plinth which has on it a small bowl full of garden peas, and a small catapult made from wooden sticks, string, a wooden spoon, and some elastic bands.
There is a third plinth directly opposite Alex, where the contestants begin their attempts at the pea-catching event.
In the centre of the temple, between all of the plinths, 26 square cushions in five different colours have been arranged in a spiral on the floor. There is a garden pea hidden beneath the 16th cushion (counting from the outside of the spiral), corresponding with ‘P’ being the 16th letter of the alphabet.
Although we do not see the full task briefs for every event being read out, it seems likely that the time limit for each of them was three minutes, starting from when they opened each envelope.
The pea-throwing and pea-finding events are obviously inspired by the ‘Propel a pea along a red carpet’ task, while the carrot tower building event is obviously inspired by the ‘Build a carrot tower while listing items in a category’ task (which has never actually been used on Taskmaster UK).
