Task brief

Alex hands the contestants the task brief over the top of a screen on the table in the living room. The brief for the task is as follows:

Identify Alex’s five things.

You may only use one sense.

If you choose hearing, you get 5 points per item. Smell, 4 points. Taste, 3 points. Touch, 2 points. Sight, 1 point.

Highest total score wins.

You have a maximum of 10 minutes.

Your time starts as soon as you have decided which sense you will be using.

Task notes

  • There is a screen set up halfway along the table, separating the contestants from Alex, who is sat on the opposite side. The screen features an image of Greg’s face and an image of a hand.
  • Portions of the screen corresponding to Greg’s eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and the hand are removable, to allow the contestants to use the relevant sense to identify the objects Alex has on the other side of the screen.
  • On the contestants’ side of the table, there are a nose plug, a blindfold, and some ear defenders, to be used to block their relevant senses.
  • After the task brief has been read, Alex clarifies that he is looking for the contestants to give each of their answers in the form of an adjective and a noun.
  • Alex’s objects are: a frozen sock; a small glass bowl full of wet human teeth; a stapler with some hair attached to it; a small glass bowl full of wet hundreds and thousands (possibly suspended in syrup?); and a glass ramekin full of plain blue-grey yoghurt.
