Task briefs

The first task brief is laid on the table in the lab. The second task brief is handed to the contestants by Paul, who has it in his inside jacket pocket. The actual objective of the task is presented to the contestants via a phone call to the phone in Paul’s inside jacket pocket. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Choose three of your five senses to lose for the next task, and place them in the bin.

Attach your sense blockers, then follow the instructions.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts when the phone rings.

Take a mug of almond milk and serve it to the mannequin in the field, then ring the bell.

Task notes

  • Also on the table, there are models of an ear, an eye, a tongue, a nose, and a hand, mounted on thin black stands.
  • To the right of the table, there is a red wire mesh waste paper bin, into which the contestants must place the models representing the senses they are willing to give up.
  • If the contestants choose to give up their hearing, they must wear a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.
  • If they choose to give up their sight, they must wear a blindfold.
  • If they choose to give up their taste, then they simply cannot taste anything.
  • If they choose to give up their sense of smell, they must wear a red plastic nose over their own nose.
  • If they choose to give up their sense of touch, then they have to allow Paul to tie their hands behind their back.
  • In the kitchen, there are 12 numbered milk bottles lined up on the counter, containing: 1) Cow’s milk; 2) PVA glue (non-toxic); 3) Soy milk; 4) Nothing; 5) Almond milk; 6) Orange juice; 7) Sour cream; 8) Yoghurt; 9) Custard; 10) Flour and water; 11) White paint (non-toxic); 12) Sand.
  • Outside the house, on the lawn, a mannequin is seated at a small round table covered with a red velvet cloth.
  • On the table, there is a ‘Taskmaster Milk Bar’ drinks menu, listing the contents of all of the milk bottles (in the order in which they are numbered, and with ‘Almond milk’ circled in red), a small vase containing some flowers, and a small silver hand-bell for the contestants to ring.
