Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Paul brings in a shoe box full of watermelon, weighing 3.6 kilograms. He earns fourth because he just “put some melon in a box”.
  • Dave brings in a chunk of marble which he’d dug out of his own garden. He thought it was possibly the base of a bird table, left by the previous owners. It was the heaviest item at 27.3 kilograms, so Dave earns first place.
  • Al goes with a different definition of ‘heavy’ and brings in the book Hitler and Stalin: Parallel Lives by Alan Bullock. Pointing out a rectangular black sticker covering part of the box (probably obscuring a brand name or logo), Dave comments that the box even has its own Hitler moustache. The book weighs 0.9 kilograms, earning Al third place.
  • Sara brings in a box which she claims contains a very heavy, venomous snake. The box has “Warning heavy snake” written on the top, and there are air-holes punched into the lid. Alex says he wasn’t able to weigh it, because it was too dangerous, but Sara assures Greg ithat was “very heavy”. He doesn’t believe her, and gives her last place. [Note: At the end of the episode, Rob opens the box and finds a 2.5 kilogram weight and a soft cuddly toy snake inside.]
  • Rob brings in a shoe box full of concrete, complete with cat paw prints. Greg comments that Rob is from southeast London and, imitating his accent, exclaims “Bish-bash-bosh, fill it full of concrete”. The box weighs 9.3 kilograms, earning Rob second place.
