Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Steinar brings in something made by his son which is supposedly a boat. It consists of a block of wood with a clothes peg stuck to it, a small stick with a tiny yellow piece of paper at the end of it, and two pieces of wire with feathers taped to their ends (presumably representing fishing rods). Others also suggest it might be a very inefficient mousetrap, to catch stupid mice. Steinar says it is impossible to display and he does not want to win it back. He earns first place.
  • Amir’s wife is a potter, and so he brings in a crisp bowl she’d made for him because he likes to eat crisps on their own. He says that the bowl has an aubergine painted on it because his mother cooks with aubergines a lot. He earns last place because Atle decides that it is too professionally made.
  • Einar brings in a song written by his mother entitled ‘To Einar on Confirmation Day, April 27th, 1997’ which is sung to the melody of Dansen Den Går Ute På Måkeskjær. He sings the start of the song, seeming to miss out some words, and having to speed up the tempo to fit it within the melody. He also shows that the song is several pages long. Atle awards him fourth place.
  • Ida brings in two different coloured earrings which resemble cats. The earrings were made by her 34-year-old sister, using fur from Ida’s two cats (one grey, one black), and so she argues that they have technically been made by three family members. She says that she can’t actually wear the earrings. She earns second place.
  • Solveig brings in a Mothers’ Day card from her son, Albert, when he was 9 or 10 years old. It reads “I love you. Kind, wise, salty, nice mom. You are so kind.” Solveig protests that she is more angry than salty. She earns third place, which she says will annoy Albert.
