Task briefs

The briefs for the task are as follows:

Choose your item.

Sweep your item towards the drop.

You have one sweep.

If your item drops, you will be eliminated.

The item swept closest to the edge without dropping wins.

Task notes

  • The contestants have to choose one of the items from in front of Paul, without knowing how it will be used in the second part of the task.
  • The items from which they may choose are: an exercise ball, a frisbee, a box of matches, a handbag, a rugby ball, a plate, a pumpkin, and a chair.
  • Once they have chosen, and the second part has been read out, Paul gives each of them a broom with which they must sweep the item towards the edge of the stage.
  • Chief task writer for the show, Sam Smith, disclosed on Twitter that the original plan had been to make the contestants sweep their prized childhood possessions from the prize task, but that it was decided that some of them were actually too precious to be shoved off the stage.
