Task brief
The task brief is laid on a plinth on a pathway next to some slides in Thorpe Park. The brief for the task is as follows:
Knock over exactly 100 cans.
You must throw all five balls, and pull one rope nice and hard.
You must stay on the spot at all times, and you may not move the spot.
Closest to 100 cans wins.
Your time starts now.
Task notes
- This task was filmed at the Thorpe Park theme park.
- Running beneath the task brief on the plinth, there are three strings (one red, one yellow, and one blue), each of which is tied around a short length of wooden dowel, loosely attached to the edge of the plinth.
- The three strings are strung across to a barrier at the edge of the path which separates it from the adjacent slides, and are attached to wire coat-hangers.
- The coat-hangers each appear to be held in place by the weight of the cans stacked on top of them.
- There are 160 tin cans stacked up on the barrier in total, arranged in groups of 40. According to the Taskmaster App, the cans were full of chopped tomatoes which were later used by the production crew for a Bolognese sauce. The cans were therefore weighty and thus not easily dislodged.
- The yellow string is connected to both of the middle stacks of cans, and so dislodges the most when pulled. The blue string only appears to dislodge one or two cans when pulled. The red string turns out not to actually be attached to any cans, so has no effect when pulled.
- Balanced on small orange cones on the path, in line with the contestant’s market spot, there are an exercise ball, a basketball, a rugby ball, a cricket ball, and a golf ball.
- There is no rule against the contestants throwing other things at the cans to dislodge them, including any cans which happen to roll towards them. They are also permitted to re-throw the same ball multiple times, if they can retrieve it without leaving the marker spot.
