Task brief

Alex passes the task brief to the contestants by dropping it onto the conveyor belt of a running machine. The brief for the task is as follows:

Sort the ducks and the socks.

Ducks go in the front bucket.

Socks go in the back bucket.

All ducks and socks must travel along both treadmills, then fall directly into the correct bucket.

If a duck or sock lands on the floor, you may not retrieve it.

Most ducks and socks in correct bucket wins.

There is a pair of bonus points for the most correctly paired socks.

You have 15 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The task takes place on the driveway of the Taskmaster house, where two running machines have been set up at right angles on a wooden frame structure, to act as a pair of conveyor belts.
  • Next to the house, the bathtub contains a mix of socks and rubber ducks, with some of the ducks inside the socks.
  • The contestants come out of the house with large buckets strapped to their fronts and backs.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Fern does not spot the bathtub full of ducks and socks for some time, so ends up hunting around the house, garden and caravan for the other ducks that are scattered around. After finaly discovering the bathtub, she manages to catch several ducks at the same time, as a group. In the studio, Alex shares that she had put a crown on and named herself the "mother of the ducks", rescuing 44 ducks during her attempt. She also managed to get 13 socks in her back bucket, giving her a total of 57 successfully caught items, and earning her fourth place.
  • John doesn't seem to be able to move fast enough to reach the end of the second treadmill, after dropping things at the start of the first, so most of his items end up on the ground. He soon discovers that some of the socks contain small rubber ducks. He then claims that "you can't buy them that small". Since he can't move fast enough, he instead slows down the treadmills to give himself more time. However, this plan backfires, as the items he puts on the conveyor system don't have enough momentum to fly into his bucket, instead dropping off the end and catching on the frame holding the machines. At the end of the task, he mainly has socks in both buckets. In the studio, Greg presses him on the statement about not being able to buy small ducks, at which point John reveals that he had recently bought a duck for his son from a pharmacy, which appeared to be the only place he thought you could get them. Alex shares that John managed to catch just nine socks and one duck, earning last place.
  • Sarah quickly identifies that there are ducks inside the socks. She separates them and sends a small pile of (presumably unpaired) socks down the treadmill conveyor, managing to catch them all in her back bucket. She tries to load up her pockets with ducks, to carry them to the start of the machine, but says she can't actually see her pockets because of her tits. She then decides that sending one item at a time is easier than sending them in a group. Overall, she catches 58 items, placing third in the task.
  • Munya manages to get hit in the face by the task brief, as Alex sends it to him along the treadmills. He sends large groups of ducks along the treadmills together, and manages to catch most of them. He then tries the same with a pile of socks, but his bucket turns around during the process, so they all end up on the ground. In an attempt to prevent any other objects from landing on the ground and becoming unretrievable, he drags the bathtub over to the end of the treadmill to catch them. This proves to be a good move, when he misses most of the next pile of socks he sends down the conveyor. He then creates a 'sock bomb' by stuffing a large number of socks inside another, and sends it down the treadmills with just seconds to spare. Unfortunately, the bathtub proves to be a hindrance in this case, as he falls backwards into it while trying to catch the sock bomb in his back bucket, losing many of the ducks he had already collected in his front bucket. Alex shares that Munya caught 37 socks and ended up with 29 ducks in his bucket, after his fall.
  • Dara starts out sending individual ducks down the conveyor and easily catching them in his bucket. He then gets started on separating and pairing the socks, but decides that "is not the fun bit", and returns to the conveyor to send a whole group of ducks along it as a group, catching all but one of them. He then decides to start grouping items together in bags, to help him catch them all in one go. He successfully catches a whole bowl full of ducks in a bag, followed by a whole basket full of paired socks (28, or 14 pairs) in another bag. In total, Dara collected 63 ducks, giving him a final item count of 91, and earning him first place. He was also the only person to pair more than two socks, so earned two bonus points.
