Task brief

The task brief is found taped to a small platform in front of the karate guy, who is kneeling on the floor. The brief for the task is as follows:

Find out what the karate guy is going to do this weekend.

Whoever finds out the fastest what the karate guy is going to do wins.

The karate guy only answers 'yes' or 'no'.

You may only whisper in a dialect not your own when you speak.

Your time starts when karate guy hits the gong.

The karate guy always lies.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Linnéa starts by asking if the karate guy will be doing something outside. She then asks if his plans have something to do with animals, and if he will be in an urban environment. Midway through her questioning, Linnéa has some sort of mini-breakdown, and just sits wide-eyed for a while. Finally, Linnéa rallies and asks if his plans have something to do with water. She pushes on with her water questions, asking if the karate guy’s plans involve a hose, and if they involve personal hygiene. Linnéa then asks if the karate guy is planning to wash his car. Linnéa takes 12 minutes 39 seconds to identify the correct answer, and wins the task.
  • Henrik starts by asking if the karate guy will be doing something fun. He then wonders what could be boring. He asks if the karate guy’s plans involve doing something that will hurt someone else, if they involve trying a new drug, or if they will involve the lower half of the body. Henrik also asks if the karate guy will be getting his back stretched, or if his plans have anything to do with vegetables. He asks if the plans are to have a prostate exam, then asks if the plans will take at least an hour. Finally, Henrik asks if the karate guy is planning to wash his car. In the studio, Henrik admits that it was a total coincidence that he got the answer correct. Henrik takes 13 minutes 40 seconds and comes second.
  • Janne starts by asking if the karate guy will be playing football. He then seems to realise that his questions should be less specific to start, so asks if the plans will take place outdoors, if it’s a physical activity, and if it will take place on his property. Janne then asks if the karate guy is planning to wash his car. In the studio, Janne admits that the edit was kind to him, as he “must have asked seven times if he was going to paint something”. Janne takes 15 minutes 43 seconds and comes third.
  • Marko starts by asking if the karate guy will be going to a party, and if he will be drinking schnapps. He then asks if the karate guy is actually any good at karate. Getting back on task, Marko asks if the karate guy’s plans involve water, if he’s going for a swim, if he is going to create rain (“fly with fighter jets and shoot molecules at clouds so that rain occurs”), if his plans involve a hose, if he plans on watering flowers and, finally, if he’s planning to wash his car. Marko takes 21 minutes 52 seconds and comes fourth.
  • Nikki starts by asking if the karate guy is planning to take a bath. She then tries to clarify his responses, asking whether when he says “yes”, it means the answer is actually “no”. Of course, the karate guy always lies, so he responds to her question with “no” (meaning “yes”). Nikki asks if the karate guy will be visiting the King, or if he’ll be going to Fridhemsplan (a young, middle-class shopping area of Stockholm). Nikki briefly forgets that the karate guy always lies, so she continues her questioning, assuming that his plans will be taking place in Fridhemsplan. She asks if the karate guy’s plans involve a living person, and then wonders if there’s anyone dead in Fridhemsplan. Nikki seems to realise her mistake, and starts asking more general questions, like whether the karate guy plans on doing cleaning. She asks if he plans to clean his shoes, or his windows. The karate guy acknowledges that he is going to clean windows, so Nikki asks if he’s going to clean his car windows, and then specifically asks if he’s going to clean the left rear window of his car. At the one-hour mark, Nikki finally declares that the karate guy is planning to wash his car over the weekend. Nikki takes 1 hour 3 seconds and comes last.
