Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Spin this table the most times in 90 seconds.

Only spins where all the elements are on the table, and the candles are burning, count.

Your time starts when you say 'Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?'.

Task notes

  • The task takes place in the living room, where a spinnable round table surface has been set up.
  • The table is covered with a red tablecloth, and other items on the table include: a set of crockery (three plates and a cup and saucer); a plate full of cookies; a plate with fruit on it; a glass jug and glass containing some kind of juice; a thin glass vase containing a rose and a Norwegian flag; and two candle sticks holding lit candles.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Leo does not read the phrase "Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?" from the task brief, making sure to check the table and plan his approach first. However, he somehow decides that it is not against the rules to remove all of the items from the table. He clears everything off the surface, including the tablecloth, and then rapidly spins the bare table with his hand. He tries to replace the tablecloth in the last few seconds, but the table is spinning too fast, so he ends up just dropping the wadded-up cloth in the middle. In the studio, Bård confirms that Leo is disqualified.
  • Lars does not read the phrase "Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?" from the task brief, and takes time to plan his approach to the task. He removes the flag from the vase, and the candles from their holders, and then drapes a rug over the other items on the table, to hold them in place. Then, while holding the flag and still-lit candles in one hand, he spins the table with the other hand, getting it up to speed before officially starting the task by saying the key phrase. At the end of his 90 seconds, he removes the rug to reveal that everything is still on the table. When Olli gestures at the items he is holding in his hand, Lars insists that they were never on the table themselves, but were in things that were - and remain - on the table. In the studio, Bård gives Lars 15 seconds to make his case and avoid a disqualification, and Lars essentially repeats the same argument. Bård is not buying it, though, so Lars is disqualified.
  • Karin reads the phrase "Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?" from the task brief, and then immediately starts slowly rotating the table. She spins it as fast as she can without any of the items falling off, though the vase and candles do fall over, and she has to stand them back up again (and relight one of the candles). In the studio, Olli reveals that Karin managed to complete 16 spins, which earns her third place.
  • Hani does not read the phrase "Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?" from the task brief, and takes time to plan her approach to the task. She places all of the items on the table into a small wooden crate, which she then positions right in the centre of the table. She then says the key phrase, and starts spinning the table, getting it up to a pretty good speed. In the studio, Olli reveals that Hani managed to complete 42 spins, which earns her first place.
  • Vidar reads out the phrase "Welcome to the table. Can I offer you a biscuit?" from the task brief, but then denies that he has said it. However, he begins slowly spinning the table, with all the items on it, without making any other preparations. In the studio, Olli reveals that Vidar managed to complete 21 spins, which earns him second place.
