Task brief

The task brief is laid on the dining table in the kitchen. The brief for the task is as follows:

Do exactly what David does, exactly after David’s done it, in exactly the same amount of time as David did it.

You must press your button when you’ve done as David’s done.

If you don’t complete a task, 10 seconds will be added to your final time.

The person whose final time is closest to David’s wins.

Your time starts when David presses his button.

Task notes

  • The contestants take a seat at the table, opposite David.
  • Arranged symmetrically on each half of the table are the following items: a jar of Vaseline, a maths test (consisting of a single sum inside a folded card), an unsharpened pencil, a pencil sharpener, a balloon pump, a modelling balloon, five rubber bands, and a banana.
  • In the middle of the table, there is a wooden treasure chest, secured with a four-digit combination lock, and also a digital chess clock.
  • The chess timer starts at zero for both David and the contestant, and counts upwards while each of them are performing their actions, until they hit the button.
  • The actions performed by David follow this sequence: eating a whole banana; sharpening the pencil; winking 40 times; solving the sum in the card; wrapping five elastic bands around his head; opening the locked box with the four-digit answer to the sum, and taking out a pair of blue surgical gloves, before locking the box again; inflating a modelling balloon with the balloon pump and tying it; putting the banana skin inside the Vaseline pot, using his gloved hands to scoop out some of the Vaseline to make room for the skin; making a standard balloon dog,; and then popping the dog with the pencil.
