Task brief

The task brief is laid on top of a roll of coloured toilet paper on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Make a paper aeroplane out of one of these things.

You must use the paper you touch first.

You may not cut or tear the piece of paper.

Your paper aeroplane must look like a paper aeroplane.

Once your paper aeroplane is complete, you have one attempt to launch it from the departure window.

Furthest flight wins.

You have 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

Also on the table, there is a selection of different types and sizes of other paper in the same colour as the toilet roll, including an A1-sized sheet of paper, a roll of wrapping paper, a small piece of origami paper, and an A4-sized sheet of paper with a circular hole cut into its centre (which is concealed beneath the toilet roll).
The ‘departure window’ is a window overlooking the garden, on the top floor of the house.
Mike observes the contestants’ flights from the lawn below, dressed as an aircraft marshal, and standing next to a wind sock.
