Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Brynley brings in a replica of a Fiji mermaid (a common sideshow exhibit typically featuring the head and torso of a monkey sewn to the tail of a fish) which she had made out of clay. Guy describes it as looking like “Satan’s buttplug”. She earns third place.
  • Guy brings in his dad’s photobook of all his memories throughout the year, which he buys from Facebook without doing any editing (he doesn’t even change the default title). The book includes images of flooding that took place near their house. He earns fourth place.
  • Leigh brings in what he claims is his uncle Hank’s Boston Marathon sport shorts, which are clearly just his own shorts that he pulled out of his car just before the show. They are pretty scruffy looking, with a hole in them. He admits that his uncle hasn’t actually been in the marathon, which is what he claims makes them less impressive. Brynley asks him whether he has done any preparation for the tasks at all, which he dismisses as more of an “off-air question”. He earns last place.
  • Madeleine brings in a ‘dwang’, which she says sounded exciting to her, but actually turns out to be just a block of wood used for bracing structural woodwork in houses. She earns first place.
  • Angella brings in what she enticingly refers to as her “collection of nudes”, but is actually just one page from a Pantone colour book, featuring colours in the ‘Spanish White’ palette, which are similar to some lighter flesh tones. She earns second place.
