Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Move as far from your current position as possible in three minutes while blindfolded.

When you remove your blindfold, you'll have another three minutes to find your way back to your starting position.

Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Christian starts off well, immediately taking off one of his shoes to mark his starting position. Once his blindfold is removed, he very quickly spots his shoe and is able to return to his exact starting point. However, it is revealed in the studio that he also (for some reason) tampered with the GPS device, erasing its data. He is therefore assigned distances of 0m travelled, 0m returned, and 0m away from the starting point, giving a balance of 0m and scoring him last place.
  • Julie both drops the bread at some point, and also leaves scuff marks in the sandy horse track to help her retrace her steps. She travels a distance of 100m from the starting position, and returns a distance of 90m, ending up just 10m from the starting point, giving her a score of 180m, and scoring her third place.
  • Lina finds her way to a fence surrounding the horse track and subsequently uses that to retrace a good portion of her path. She did not use her bread at all. She travels 180m out, returns 140m, and ends up 73m from the starting position, giving her a score of 247m, and securing herself second place.
  • Nikolaj has some good ideas, dropping his bread immediately to mark the starting spot, and then continuing to head in a straight line even when he encounters obstacles (including two fences and a table). However, his sense of direction fails him on the return trip, and he veers far away from his slice of bread. He travels 100m out, makes a return journey of 160m, and is still 84m away from the starting point, giving him a total score of 176m, and securing him fourth place.
  • Ruben uses the bread to create a trail of breadcrumbs near the beginning of his blindfolded journey, which takes the form of a wild spiral of 230m. His 240m return trip starts off in totally the wrong direction, but somehow gets him back close to his starting point, where he spots one of his breadcrumbs. He ends up just 35m from the starting point, giving him an overall score of 435m, and winning him the task.
