Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

With the blindfold on at all times, walk as far away as possible for three minutes.

Nuno will be with you during the walk, because he is a strong, independent, and extremely charming and caring man.

Upon removing the blindfold, you'll have three more minutes to get back to your starting point.

Whoever travels the furthest and returns closest to the starting point wins.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • During her blindfolded walk, Jessica walks into a nearby wooded area. She quickly realises that she did not start in a wooded area, so easily regains part of her travelled distance simply by leaving the woods. However, she runs out of time trying to decide which way to go. In all, Jessica travels 81.7m blindfolded and recoups 45m. Jessica earns third place.
  • While blindfolded, and before walking, Inês attempts to figure out the position of the sun, so she can always walk towards it. She also tears off half of her bread and leaves it at her starting point. Inês' blindfolded walk is hampered by her own fear, as when she first starts, she accidentally steps on Nuno’s measuring wheel, and she therefore spends the rest of her blindfolded time thinking she’s going to step on it again (or that she’ll get stung by some of the plants present, which also happens to her). When retracing her steps, Inês remembers a certain part where progress was very slow (presumably because of the stinging plants), so she heads to an area more densely populated with plants. She spends the rest of her time wandering around, looking for the hunk of bread she dropped at the starting point. In all, Inês travels 126.1m blindfolded, recoups 0m, and ends up a further 2m away from the starting point. Inês earns fifth place.
  • Gilmário realises that the bread can be used like Hansel and Gretel, and leaves breadcrumbs in his path during his blindfolded walk. However, upon taking the blindfold off, Gilmário quickly realises that he’s dropped white bread onto a sandy area, and has a very difficult time trying to locate his breadcrumbs. Near the end of his time, Gilmário returns to where he left Nuno and declares that it is also where he initially started (even though he knows that’s not true). In all, Gilmário travels 137.1m blindfolded and recoups 0m. Gilmário earns fourth place.
  • It’s not shown in his edit, but Toy realises he can use the bread to leave a trail (and actually does), as there are a few shots of him holding an incomplete slice of bread. Either he has difficulty locating his breadcrumbs, or he ran out of breadcrumbs to follow, because Toy spends some of his time walking around trying to get his bearings and locate presumably the other half of his slice of bread, as he worries that it may have been eaten by birds. In all, Toy travels 108.7m blindfolded and recoups 51.8m. Toy earns second place.
  • Fernando spends most of his blindfolded walk singing and chatting with Nuno. While attempting to retrace his steps, Fernando remembers that of the stinging plants hit him (specifically in the crotch), so he starts looking for taller plants to help guide him. Fernando confidently walks to a location and declares it to be his starting position, and eats the bread in celebration. In all, Fernando travels 112.1m blindfolded, and recoups 98.7m. Fernando wins the task.
