Task brief

The task brief is propped up on a small toy boat, on a model of a pastoral scene, on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Make a bridge over the river using only the items on this table.

Highest self-supporting bridge wins.

The bridge alone must support the potato.

You must not touch the Taskmaster's house.

You have 20 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

The model features a miniature version of the Taskmaster house next to a river (containing actual water), and some plastic farm animals.
In the river, there is a small toy barge with the phrase ‘Debajo De La Mesa’ (‘Under the table’) painted on its side.
Available on the table for bridge-building are: some bendy plastic drinking straws, some playing cards, some rubber bands, some chewing gum, and some uncooked spaghetti.
There is also a button on the side of the table which illuminates a sign on the other side of the table (facing the camera) which reads ‘Look under the table’, and a sign with the same message printed on it is stuck to the wall above the exit to the lab.
A variety of extra bridge-building supplies are attached to the underside of the table, including some pieces of wood, some tape, and some scissors.
