Task briefs

The contestants find the initial task brief at the back of the Taskmaster house, on a small table. There are seven other identical tables lined up next to it, with the task briefs and items for the various subsequent stages of the task. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Complete the fortune trail, then flip five consecutive heads.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

Either walk under this ladder, or put the ladder away in the shed.

Either let the black cat cross your path, or carry the cat for the rest of the task.

Either find the lucky penny or find exactly $13.

Either spill the salt, or throw the salt container over your shoulder, into the bin.

Either open the umbrella inside the caravan, or close the 13 umbrellas in the study.

Flip five heads in a row.

Task notes

  • Between the first and second tables is a wooden step-ladder.
  • Under the second table (which is covered with a tablecloth) is a stuffed toy cat on a leash.
  • On the third table is a jar of mixed coins.
  • On the fourth table is a salt cellar, and there is a small, open pedal bin a few metres away from it.
  • The task brief found on the fifth table is unknown, but chief task creator Sam Smith shared on Twitter that he thought it may have been related either to a shooting star, or saying 'Macbeth' on a stage.
  • On the sixth table was a hammer and a small mirror, so presumably that mini-task involved choosing whether to break the mirror (for 7 years' bad luck), or do something else.
  • On the seventh table is an umbrella.
  • On the eighth and final table is a Taskmaster coin for them to flip.
  • It is revealed in the studio that, if any of the contestants had opted to visit the shed or study, they would have found a 'lucky' alternate coin, with heads on both sides, which would have made the final part of the task infinitely easier.

He managed to complete the trail and flip five consecutive heads in 5 minutes and 10 seconds, but as he did not find exactly NZ$13, he only received 3 points.
