Task brief

The actual text of the task brief is not known. The text below is paraphrased based on information disclosed in the episode:

In front of you, you have the most beautiful canvas with a hole in it.

You will now create a hybrid portrait of one of the other participants who are standing by your side.

The hole is there for you to have room for your own face, so the portrait is a hybrid.

You are free to create the rest of the face yourself with the things you have on the table.

The best portrait wins.

Task notes

  • The contestants are each stood behind a table on stage, and separated with screens.
  • On each table, there is a small canvas with a half-oval cut out of the middle, so they can incorporate part of their own face into their creation.
  • Each contestants is also provided with a variety of craft supplies, including a glue stick, tape, some scissors, a marker pen, coloured paper, some yarn, some colourful feathers, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, toothpicks, coloured pencils, small clothes pegs, polystyrene balls, and other objects and shapes.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Leo creates a portrait of Lars by drawing his head and features in marker pen, and then decorating it with feathers and other colourful items, stating that he is "out partying", or "perhaps at Gay Pride". He shows his own eyes and top of his own nose through the hole in the canvas. Bård correctly identifies who it is meant to be, and awards Leo joint fourth place, with Karin.
  • Karin creates a portrait of Leo, drawing his basic features in marker pen, adding black and white feathers for his hair, bits of black pipe cleaner for his beard, and a keyring as an earring. She shows her own eyes through the hole in the canvas. Although Bård correctly identifies who it is meant to be, he also points out that the face shape reminds him more of the character Lois from Family Guy. He awards Karin joint fourth place, with Leo.
  • Lars creates a portrait of Karin by drawing her face and upper body in marker pen, adding blue and purple yarn for hair, and attaching googly eyes. He shows his own forehead - onto which he has drawn the eyebrows in marker pen - through the hole in the canvas. Bård correctly identifies it as Karin despite it not really resembling her at all. He awards Lars joint third place, along with Vidar.
  • Hani creates a portrait of Vidar, representing him during his attempt at the 'Perform a 30 second revue sketch' task, in the previous episode, in which he appeared as a 'depression gnome', with colourful feathers glued to his face and head. She has drawn most of his features, including his flannel shirt, in marker pen, and has glued colourful feathers around it which look like they are being blown upwards, from below. She shows her own mouth through the gap in the canvas, holding it wide open to represent the depression gnome's experience of trying to kill itself with a leaf-blower. Bård quickly identifies who it is meant to be, and Vidar thanks her for reminding him of one of his lowest moments. Bård awards Hani first place in the task.
  • Vidar creates a portrait of Lars, depicting him mostly in marker pen as a giant with a huge, round, shiny head, and bulging eyes (stuck-on balls with googly eyes attached to them), with a speech bubble coming from his mouth saying "I'm a genius". The other contestants are depicted as tiny people at the bottom edge of the canvas, and Vidar shows his own mouth through the hole in the canvas. Bård quickly identifies who it is meant to be, and awards Vidar joint third place, with Lars.
