Task bingo
Task briefs
The task briefs are received in the living room, where two plinths are supporting a large board designed to look like a bingo card. The main task brief is laid in front of the board, on top of the plinths. Nine additional task briefs are stuck to the board, each below a unique number, within a grid cell. The briefs for the task are as follows:
First to complete a line or four corners wins.
The time starts when someone shouts 'bingo'.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 57:
Sit in the shed for three minutes and think about what you have done.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 22:
Throw each of your shoes onto a different roof.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 63:
Make the bingo bin go out of the main gates.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 4:
Get fully into the sleeping bag, then get out of the sleeping bag and put the sleeping bag fully into the sleeping bag bag.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 38:
Put exactly four pints of water in the pot.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 29:
Scream 'I have been in all four rooms of the house', in all four rooms of the house.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 53:
Get the banana down from the tree.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 60:
Pop all but one bubble on the bubble wrap.
In the bingo grid cell numbered 30:
Speak to John.
Task notes
- Alex is stood behind the bar in the room, and has a manually-operated bingo machine with nine balls inside, each of which bears one of the numbers on the giant bingo card.
- Alex operates the bingo machine and calls out the numbers, which dictate which mini-task the contestants should open next.
- A sleeping bag for one of the mini-tasks, and a sheet of bubble-wrap for another, are placed between the two plinths, and there is a stack of square cards with handles on a nearby shelf, featuring large 'X's, which the contestant use to mark the grid cells when they have successfully completed a mini-task.
- Outside, there is a wheelie bin full of water on the driveway, a banana up on the branch of a tree (with a sign saying 'Banana' pointing at it), and two bottles on top of an oil drum (one labelled 'Five pints', and the other labelled 'Three pints'), all of which relate to specific mini-tasks on the bingo card.
Task stats
Attempts
Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!
- Kiell's first ball is number 22, so he places one shoe on the roof of the caravan, and throws the other onto the top of the geodesic dome. His next ball is number 63, so he tries to move the bin. When he discovers it is full of water, he tries to tip it out into the bath, only to discover that there is no plug in the bath. He therefore just tips the bin over on the driveway, and then carries the emptied bin out through the gates. During this mini-task, he notes that he has no shoes on twice. His third ball is number 29, so he runs around the house, calling out the required phrase in the living room, kitchen, lab, and toilet. His fourth task is number 53, so he uses a hook on the end of a long handle to retrieve the banana from the tree (noting once again, before he goes outside, that he isn't wearing any shoes). His fifth task is number 30, so he starts looking around the property for someone named John who he can speak to (again noting that he doesn't have any shoes on). Returning to the living room and discovering that there is no John on site, he calls the customer service line of the retail chain John Lewis. In the studio, Alex reveals that Kiell completed the task in 20 minutes and 30 seconds, which earns him third place.
- Mae's first ball is number 57, so they go and sit in the shed for three minutes. Their next ball is number 4, so they get into and then back out of the sleeping bag, before packing it away again. Their third ball is number 38, so they try to measure and calculate a way to get four pints of water into one of the bottles, using the water in the wheelie bin. Their fourth ball is number 60, so they set about trying to pop all but one of the bubbles on the bubble-wrap, eventually switching to using a pair of scissors to shred the sheet, eliminating multiple bubbles at a time. In the studio, Alex reveals that Mae spent 20 minutes on the bubble-wrap mini-task alone, and 26 minutes and 13 seconds on the task altogether. This earns them last place.
- Jenny's first ball is number 53 but, instead of retrieving the actual banana from the tree, she uses a lacrosse stick to retrieve the sign with the word 'banana' on it. Her second ball is number 22, so she places one shoe on top of the caravan, and the other up onto the roof of the house (after several failed attempts to land it on the top of the geodesic dome). Her third ball is number 29, so she runs around the house, screaming the required phrase in the living room, kitchen, lab, and toilet. Her fourth ball is number 30, so she goes looking around the house for a John, before calling a John her husband knows, pretending that she has called him by accident. In the studio, there is some debate over whether the sign with the word 'banana' on it counts as 'the banana'. Alex reveals that Jenny completed the task in 8 minutes and 12 seconds. This earns her first place, but she loses a point because of the banana sign controversy.
- Frankie's first ball is number 53 but, instead of retrieving the actual banana from the tree, he uses the Taskmaster's cane to retrieve the sign with the word 'banana' on it. His second ball is number 22, so he throws one shoe up onto the caravan, and the other up onto the roof of the house. His third ball is number 53, so he tips all of the water out of the bin, on the driveway, and then throws the bin over the gate (after several attempts). His fourth ball is number 30, so he calls a John he knows on his phone. His fifth ball is number 60, so he removes a small piece of the bubble-wrap before taking the rest of it outside, along with all of his opened task briefs, and - in an unknowing tribute to Kalle Zackari Wahlström's solution to the 'Pop the bubble wrap' task in the first season of Bäst i Test - makes a fire in a bucket to melt it all. In the studio, there is some debate over whether the sign with the word 'banana' on it counts as 'the banana'. Alex reveals that Frankie completed the task in 14 minutes and 38 seconds. This earns him second place, but he loses a point because of the banana sign controversy.
- Ivo's first ball is number 4, so he gets into and then back out of the sleeping bag, before packing it away again. His second ball is number 30, so he tries calling someone named John on his phone, but they are not available. He decides to just move on, and his next ball is number 57, but he decides he doesn't want to sit around in the shed for three minutes, so he asks for another ball instead. His next ball is number 60, but he also thinks that will take too long, so he requests another ball again. This pattern continues, with Alex calling out balls number 53, 38, and 22, and Ivo deciding against attempting each of the associated mini-tasks. When Alex calls out ball number 63, Ivo decides to actually attempt the mini-task of moving the wheelie bin, tipping out all of the water on the driveway before throwing the empty bin over the gate. He then decides to return to the mini-task associated with number 53, using a length of drainpipe to knock the banana out of the tree. Next, he returns to the mini-task associated with ball number 22, throwing one of his shoes up onto the caravan, and the other up onto the roof of the house. Alex then calls out the final ball, number 29, and Ivo runs around the house, calling out the required phrase in the living room, kitchen, lab, and toilet. He decides to make a line by completing the mini-task associated with ball number 57, but mistakenly goes and sits in the caravan for three minutes, rather than the shed. When he returns and (with some prompting from Alex) realises his mistake, he decides to call another John (his dad's friend, and Ivo's former doctor). He is able to successfully speak to a John, on this occasion, but this John is very happy to hear from him, and keeps Ivo engaged in conversation much longer than necessary (and Ivo is too polite to end the call). In the studio, Alex reveals that Ivo completed the task in 25 minutes and 27 seconds, which earns him fourth place.

Points
Notes on task scores
- It is decided that Frankie and Jenny should be docked one point each for retrieving the sign with the word 'banana' on it from the tree, rather than the actual banana that it was pointing at.
