Task briefs

The first task brief is found on the table in the lab. Pilvi hands to contestants the second task brief when they find her on the porch outside. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Find Pilvi.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

Tell Pilvi the items that were in the lab.

The fastest one to list the items correctly wins.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Also on the table in the lab are a clipboard, a small plant, and a service bell.
  • There are also several items hanging from the ceiling: a lei, a shuttlecock, a white handle, a star-shaped cookie cutter, a miniature version of an Oscar statuette, and a hand fan.
  • There is apparently also a lamp in the room, but it is not shown.
  • Including the task brief itself, and the table, there are a total of 12 items in the lab.
  • Pilvi is notably absent, and the contestants all eventually find her standing on the porch outside of the side door of the mansion.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Pirjo looks at the items on the table in confusion, wondering if Pilvi will appear if the bell is rung. She seems to search for Pilvi more thoroughly than the other contestants, looking high and low in each room to see if she is hiding somewhere, instead of simply standing elsewhere. After finding Pilvi and reading the second task brief, Eija declares that the items in the lab included a clipboard (though she cannot remember the word for it), the task brief, an artificial plant, and a service bell (though she uses an unusual word to describe it as a ‘non-timepiece’, as the same Finnish word is used to refer bells, clocks, and watches). When Pilvi asks her if the lab contained anything else, Pirjo adds the table on which the items were placed. In total, Pirjo therefore lists five of the 12 items, and comes third.
  • Timo wonders what would be characteristic of Pilvi, as it could inform where she would be hiding. He remembers that she brushes her teeth a lot, so he makes a bee-line for the bathroom, to search for her. After finding her outside and reading the second task brief, Timo recalls seeing only the service bell (“one of those ding-ding bells”) and the task brief itself. When Pilvi asks if the lab contained anything else, he insists that those were the only items present (though it’s clear that he knows there were others), then stops Pilvi’s stopwatch himself. In total, Timo lists just two of the 12 items, and comes last. However, Jaakko gives him a bonus point for his “unwavering self-confidence” (the first of several such points to come, for the same rationale, in this episode).
  • After searching inside the house, Eija leaves via the front door (which is unfortunate, because Pilvi is standing just outside of the door on the opposite side of the house). She searches around the wooded areas at the border of the property for some time, before finding Pilvi on the porch. After reading the second task brief, Eija confidently declares that the items in the lab included just a clipboard (though she cannot remember the word for it), a plant, and a service bell. When Pilvi asks if the lab contained anything else, Eija states that there was nothing else. In total, Eija lists just three of the 12 items, and comes fourth.
  • Fathi walks through the house, calling out for Pilvi, exclaiming that he plans on tickling her when he finds her. Pilvi reveals in the studio that Fathi was the quickest of the contestants to find her, but no actual times are given. After reading the second task brief, Fathi names ‘a duster’ (presumably he meant the hand fan), the Oscar, the lei, the shuttlecock, the plant, and the clipboard (though he does not remember the word for it). In total, Fathi lists seven of the 12 items, and comes second.
  • Kalle is the only contestant who takes his time in the lab, after reading the task brief, looking at the items hanging from the ceiling, and wondering why they are there. He seems to find Pilvi outside fairly quickly. After reading the second task brief, Kalle names the Oscar, the shuttlecock, the fan (though he calls it a ‘ping pong paddle’), the clipboard (though he does not remember the word for it), and the service bell. When Pilvi asks if there was anything else in the lab, Kalle re-reads the task brief, then runs back into the lab to check – much to the annoyance of his fellow competitors in the studio. Kalle uses his phone to take pictures of everything in the lab, and returns to Pilvi, where he names all of the items except for the task brief itself. With 11 out of 12 named correctly, he comes first.
