Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Bring in the thing that most easily and regularly goes missing.

Task notes

  • The implication of the word ‘hukkuvan’ (missing) in the context of this task is that the owner has misplaced it, not that it actually disappears.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Pirjo brings in a pair of earplugs. She says that earplugs are easily found lying around. except when someone really needs them – like when they’re trying to sleep. Jaakko awards Pirjo second place.
  • Eija brings in a remote control, which Pilvi points out has bite marks on it. Eija insists that her dog is the one chewing the remote. Jaakko awards Eija joint fourth place.
  • Kalle brings in a boat anchor, as anchors commonly go (temporarily) ‘missing’ in the sea during boating season (the word used in the task brief, ‘hukkuvan’, can also mean ‘to drown’, although it’s meant for living beings). Jaakko awards Kalle joint fourth place.
  • Helmi-Leena brings in a DVD of the movie Titanic, declaring that either the DVD or Leonardo DiCaprio is what regularly goes missing (the word used in the task, ‘hukkuvan’, can also mean ‘to drown’ and, unlike Kalle, Helmi-Leena is using the wordplay correctly, by pointing out that Leonardo DiCaprio drowns in the movie; also, a DVD is an object which can easily go missing). Jaakko awards Helmi-Leena third place.
  • Fathi brings in an empty plexiglass cube. When pressed by Jaakko, Fathi explains that the cube is symbolic of his missing self-esteem. In a small boost to Fathi’s the same, Jaakko awards him first place.
