Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Bring in the most Taskmasterly thing that begins with the letter ‘K’.

Task notes

  • The letter ‘K’ is very common in the Finnish language.
  • The language of this task brief is ambiguous – it could be referring specifically to Jaakko as the Taskmaster, or to the show in general.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Pirjo brings in a cactus (‘kaktus’) that she’s owned for quite some time. According to Pirjo, it is quite Taskmasterly because “no matter how bad its shape, it somehow keeps surviving”. Jaakko awards Pirjo first place. [Note: When Suurmestari adapted the ‘Transport a coconut as far as possible ’ task, it swapped the coconut out for a cactus, so this prize submission could also be considered to work on another level.]
  • Fathi brings in a ‘kantele’ (a traditional zither-like instrument). In the epic Finnish poem Kalevala, a wise man named Vainamoinen often sang while playing the kantele. Fathi likens Jaakko to Vainamoinen, as they are both “mystical figures surrounded by idiots”. Jaakko awards Fathi second place for his “perceptive observation”.
  • Kalle brings in a house key (‘kotiavain’), which he says is a copy of the key to Jaakko’s house. It’s unclear if it’s meant to be the key to Jaakko’s actual house, or to the mansion where all of the tasks were filmed during the season. Given its link to Ali’s prize submission, it seems the implication is that the key is to Jaakko’s actual house. Jaakko awards Kalle joint fourth place.
  • Ali brings in Jaakko’s watch (‘kello’), which – according to him – was very easily obtained thanks to the key he’d borrowed from Kalle (referencing Kalle’s own prize submission, which was a copy of the key to Jaakko’s house). Jaakko awards Ali joint fourth place, but also a bonus point for his “stroke of genius” in borrowing Kalle’s key in order to source his own prize task submission.
  • Eija brings in a pair of long johns (‘kalsarit’). When pressed by Jaakko, Eija initially struggles to explain how they are particularly Taskmasterly, but settles on the explanation that the legs have a passing resemblance to Jaakko’s (i.e. they are long and white). She also claims that long johns are a practical thing to wear on the drafty private jet that she’s certain the very-successful Jaakko must be taking whenever he travels. The other contestants are quick to point out that most private jets are not drafty. Surprisingly, Jaakko awards Eija third place.
