The task brief is propped up on the lap of a teddy bear, on a bed in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Scare Paul at bedtime.
Scariest bedtime wins.
Paul will arrive to go to bed in 20 minutes.

Task notes
- The entire lab has been furnished as if it’s a bedroom, including a single bed, a bedside table, some cupboards and shelves, a wardrobe, a wash basin, and a small desk with a stool.
- On the desk, there is a piece of paper on which Paul’s bedtime routine is written out: ‘Wash face. Brush hair. Deslipper. Respect the Taskmaster. Journal 30 seconds. Bed. Read for 30 seconds. Lights out.’
- Also on the desk, there is Paul’s diary, inside which he reveals that he is afraid of ‘failure, sharks, getting older, and the unknown’.
- On the bedside table, there is a photo of Jeremy, which Paul looks at while he’s ‘Respecting the Taskmaster’.
