Task brief

The task brief is laid on top of a large empty metal can, on the table in the caravan. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get the most liquid in this can.

You may not leave the submari-van.

You have 15 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The window behind where the contestants are seated at the start of the task is open. A couple of metres outside of the window, there is a pint glass full of some amber-coloured liquid on a plinth, labelled ‘Breakfast Drink’. A long litter-picker to reach this glass is attached to the outside of the caravan with velcro strips, just above the window.
  • There are several small plastic containers full of UHT milk inside the birdcage, hanging next to the window by Alex inside the caravan.
  • There is a toiletry bag containing hidden behind a decorative plate on a shelf behind where Alex is sat, containing eye drops, saline spray, toothpaste, hand gel, and roll-on deodorant.
  • There is another toiletry bag containing bath pearls, hidden somewhere else inside the caravan.
  • There is a daily vitamins box containing vegan Omega 3 capsules.
  • There is a ball of ice inside the grill, which has been labelled ‘Freezer’.
  • There is also a labelled bowl of fruit in the caravan, containing four bananas, three apples, one bunch of green grapes, and one bunch of red grapes for potential juicing, and two coconuts for potentially cracking open.
  • A red ribbon has been strung through the window of the bathroom and into the plughole of the sink, with a label on it which reads ‘Decking Cleaner’. When pulled, this ribbon tips a glass full of blue liquid mounted outside the window, and the liquid then runs through a series of pipes, and into a length of guttering which is balanced on some foam bricks at the front of the caravan, terminating on the decking immediately below the door.
  • A second ribbon is attached to the first one, and runs up onto the roof of the caravan. When the ribbon is pulled further, this tips a second glass full of blue liquid mounted on the roof, which spills into another pipe which terminates just above the caravan door, dropping more liquid onto the decking below.
  • The cupboard above the (non-functional) kitchen sink is labelled ‘Shower’, and there is a shower head mounted under the sunroof in front of it. When the cupboard door is opened, it somehow triggers a dribble of water from a fishbowl mounted on the roof of the caravan, through the showerhead.
  • For the purposes of representing the contestant’s relative volumes of collected liquid in the studio, it is frozen into rubber duck-shapes using a mould, which are then presented in rows on-screen, forming a bar graph.
