Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Gilmário takes the ice block over to the pool. He harnesses it in some sort of ropes, and drags it through the water, likening it to walking a dog. Eventually, he starts throwing the ice block on the ground next to the pool to break it down. Gilmário kicks the small pieces of ice into the pool, declaring them disappeared; Nuno disagrees. Despite this, Gilmário decides to spend time lying in the plastic boat, just relaxing and floating in the pool. The camera reveals that Gilmário overlooked a chunk of ice on the ground. Gilmário declares his ice block disappeared in 17 minutes 7 seconds. Vasco agrees that Gilmário’s ice block was not fully melted and awards Gilmário no points.
  • Pedro searches the shed and finds a large sledgehammer. He then proceeds to smash the block of ice into small pieces, declaring the task finished. When Nuno clarifies that all of the ice pieces must be gone, Pedro continues to search the shed, before finally sourcing a hair dryer to start melting the pieces. Eventually he decides to make the un-melted pieces disappear by covering them with various items from the shed (traffic cones, pillows, etc) or throwing them into the nearby treeline. Pedro makes the entire ice block disappear in 27 minutes 15 seconds and comes third.
  • Inês chips away half of the ice block using a small sledgehammer, before finally getting the idea to make a blowtorch with a lighter and a can of hairspray (or, if no hairspray is available, “a really good fart”). Inês finds a blowtorch in the shed, and uses that on the ice block instead, continuing to chip away at the block with the water. Eventually, she leaves Nuno to hold the flame on the ice block while she gets some boiling water from the house; Nuno sits down when she’s out of sight, and does not continue melting the ice for her until she returns. Nuno pours the hot water over the ice chips while Inês moves any chilled water away from the ice; she also hides a chunk of ice in Nuno’s jacket pocket. She keeps trying to distract him from searching his pockets; when Nuno finally discovers the chunk of ice, Inês (jokingly) proclaims that he is intentionally trying to sabotage her. Vasco agrees that Inês' ice block was not melted at the end of her allotted time, and awards her no points.
  • Toy brings the ice block inside, intending on melting it on the stove. He turns on the burner under a large pot, and while the hob warms up the pot, Toy puts the ice block in the sink, running hot water from the tap onto it and stabbing at it with a large knife to break it into smaller pieces. The smaller pieces melt fairly quickly in the heated pot. Nuno is particularly nit-picky with Toy’s ice block, pointing out even the smallest slivers of ice if he can see them (even at one point saying that he can still see the ice in the sink, that it was just in melted form). Toy makes the entire ice block disappear in 10 minutes 55 seconds, and comes second.
  • Jessica realises that in the context of the task, “disappear” means that Nuno can’t see it. She puts the ice block in a wheelbarrow to help her move it, and moves to an area of the Taskmaster property that has a particularly high wall, on the other side of which is a wooded area and a long drop. Jessica dumps the entire ice block on the other side of the wall, asking Nuno if he can still see the ice. When Nuno weakly declares that he probably could if he stood on a chair, Jessica questions why he would do that. Still, Nuno does get a chair, and can easily see the ice block when standing on the chair. Jessica throws the wheelbarrow over the wall before going over the wall herself (while commenting that normally Nuno doesn’t move during tasks, and he shouldn’t be for this one as well), wheeling the ice block further away from Nuno, to a sheep paddock. The commotion draws several sheep to her, which she has to shoo away. On the other side of the paddock is a much higher wall, and (by piggybacking on a crew member), Jessica throws the ice block over that wall (along with her t-shirt, which she had been using to protect her hands from the cold) into a dense field of crops. Jessica makes the entire ice block disappear in 10 minutes 42 seconds, and wins the task.
