Find the minivan in the sock

Task notes

• There are 155 red socks with white stripes around the ankle pegged to the balcony of the house, behind and above where the contestants read the task brief. All but one of the socks has just two stripes, while the odd one has three.
• Most – if not all – of the socks contain a small item such as a toy.
• Leant against the plinth, there is a long pole with a hook on the end, which the contestants may use to retrieve the socks.
• Tom Cashman is wearing a red sock on his right foot which matches the odd sock with three stripes on the balcony. The toy minivan that the contestants are looking for is inside this sock.
• Tom makes no effort to conceal the sock, which is very visible throughout the task. If he is required to walk anywhere during the task, it is pretty clear that he is limping and in some discomfort, due to the toy car pressing against his foot. For those contestants who spend a long time trying to solve the task, Tom even begins to drop hints about being in pain, or make an effort to make more of his sock visible to them.
• During the introductory montage for the task, there is a shot of the fibreglass giraffe by the house in which the animal is also wearing a red sock on each foot. However, during the contestants attempts, this is not the case.
• Although reminiscent of the ‘Find the sock containing a specific citrus fruit‘ task, this task is categorised as original here due to the numerous differences in the set-up.
