Task briefs
The first task brief is laid on a Snakes & Ladders board on the table in the hutch. The second task brief is laid on top of a large foam die on the bottom-left-most seat in a section of tiered spectator seating in the grandstand at Sandown Park racecourse. The briefs for the task are as follows:
Create your own Snakes & Steps board.
You must add one snake and one set of steps.
You must also add one mystery box.
The instruction inside the mystery box is up to you.
You have 10 minutes.
Your time starts now.
Win Snakes & Steps.
Players will move from youngest to oldest.
You must throw the die properly each time, and you must not tamper with the die.
If you land on the head of a snake, you must slither down to its tail.
If you land at the base of a step, you’ve got to climb it.
If you land on the mystery box, you must do what it says.
First to land exactly on the finishing seat wins.
Your time starts now.

Task notes
- Also on the table in the hutch, there are a toy rubber snake, some wooden lollipop sticks, a small wooden box with question marks printed on its faces (inside of which there are some small slips of paper), and a pen.
- At the Sandown Park racecourse, a nine by eight section of the tiered spectator seating in the grandstand has been converted into a supersized replica of the board collectively designed by the contestants: each seat has been labelled with numbers corresponding to the squares on the board; the snakes have been recreated with flexible plastic ducting; the ‘steps’ have been recreated as rope ladders; and larger versions of the mystery chests are present.
- The snakes and ladders are all colour-coded according to which of the contestants placed them during the first part of the task.
