The task brief is laid within a pile of hula hoops of varying sizes and colours, on the bank of the River Misbourne, at Kennel Farm. The brief for the task is as follows:
Hoopla Gary before he crosses the finish line.
Your time is doubled every time one of your limbs gets wet.

Task notes
- This task takes place on a section of the River Misbourne at Kennel Farm, near Little Missenden, in Buckinghamshire.
- Alex is waiting for the contestants on the bank of the river, standing next to the pile of hula hoops.
- About 12-15 metres further away from the bank, there is a scarecrow, which is wearing waders.
- The finish line is marked on the river by a checkerboard sign mounted on the opposite bank.
- After the contestants have read the task brief, an inflatable dinghy containing a fibreglass gorilla (Gary) is released upstream, and begins floating towards the finish line.
- The dinghy appears to have thin wires attached to both front and back, to keep it tethered in place until needed, and perhaps also to keep in travelling in a straight line down the middle of the river.
