Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Lina immediately forgets the part of the task brief about not moving the tube, and decides that the best way to remove the ball is to just tip it out. She is disqualified from the task.
  • Ruben discovers the holes in the tube but decides he can probably overwhelm them if he pours in enough fluid. After this proves not to be the case, he decides to set off a fire extinguisher down the tube. This fails to remove the ball, but does succeed in temporarily blinding Mark in one eye. He earns no points, having failed the task.
  • Christian initially tries to use some hose to blow the ball out of the tube. When this fails, he asks Mark to leave the room and tries to detach the tube from its base. He finally decides to take the direct approach of extracting the ball through the side of the tube, using a blowtorch to melt the PVC. He succeeds after 14 minutes and 7 seconds, placing second in the task.
  • Julie asks Mark to get her a step ladder, then tape to cover the holes, then a jug of water, then asks him to pour the water into the tube. She does do the taping over of the holes herself, and pours in the last of the water to extract the ball after 3 minutes and 44 seconds, winning the task.
  • Nikolaj apparently doesn't think to source any supplies from outside of the lab, instead trying to plug the holes in the tube with drinking straws and cocktail umbrellas (unsurprisingly ineffective). He eventually gives up on the task, and earns no points.
