Attempts
Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!
- After thinking for a bit, Neel asks Mark what songs he knows. They settle on Little Peter Spider (aka Itsy Bitsy Spider). She times how long it takes Mark to sing the song at a specific pace, then calculates that Mark needs to sing the song eleven times in total. For a bit of fun, she also has Mark dress up like a spider. Unfortunately, Mark sings quicker than their established pace, so the egg is still a little runny. Neel’s cooking time of 3 minutes 49 seconds earns her third place.
- Annika looks around the room and discovers the Danish hymnal. She flips to the song Hail, Saviour and Redeemer. She times how many of its verses she can sing in a minute, and then calculates that she needs to sing twenty verses in total. When Mark is indicates he’s ready to start cooking the egg, Annika (in an adjacent room), starts to sing the verses. Annika’s cooking time of 8 minutes earns her second place.
- Anders decides to make a sundial in the yard. However, his confidence does not serve him well, and the egg boils for twice as long as Anders' estimate. Anders' cooking time of 12 minutes 56 seconds earns him last place.
- Mahamad is the only contestant who doesn’t know how long it takes to make a soft-boiled egg; he decides his egg timer needs to measure three minutes – half the actual time needed. Mahamad decides to make an hourglass – when Mark places the egg into boiling water, he must then pour a glass of salt into a paper funnel – once the salt has passed through the funnel, the egg should be cooked. The hourglass isn’t bad, but because Mahamad only planned for three minutes, the egg is very undercooked. Mahamad’s cooking time of 2 minutes 17 seconds earns him fourth place.
- Jakob’s attempt is prefaced with a warning from TV2’s legal department, and with good reason: Jakob decides to use a barrel fire as an egg timer. His entire calculation method seems to be visualising the hypothetical bonfire, and Jakob puts branches and a lot of lighter fluid in the barrel. Mark uses a sparkler to light the bonfire. When lit, the contents of the barrel blast out and land where Mark had been standing when he threw the sparkler in; had he not stepped back after lighting the fire, he would have been hit by flaming branches. Jakob’s cooking time of 5 minutes 42 seconds earns him first place.
