Task brief

The task brief is laid on top of a blue suitcase, on a table just outside the mansion. The brief for the task is as follows:

Pack this suitcase to be as heavy as possible.

The suitcase must be on the scale when the time runs out.

You may not damage the suitcase.

The heaviest suitcase wins.

You have seven minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Next to the table, there is a wooden pallet with a large digital weighing scale on top of it.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Fathi asks if the suitcase needs to be shut when the task is over. Reaching the conclusion that it does not, Fathi decides that his best chance of winning is to build a platform inside of the suitcase, and then have as many people as possible stand on it. He fills the suitcase with blocks of wood, and then balances a longer plank of wood on top of the pile to create his platform. Fathi then stands on the plank, along with a member of the crew. Fathi’s suitcase weighs 173.3kg. Although Jaakko rules that the suitcase must be closed, in order to be considered packed, he awards Fathi a participation point.
  • Eija decides that the task does not require the suitcase to be shut, once it is filled with heavy items. She decides to keep the things simple, and so places the open suitcase on the weighing scale, before instructing Pilvi to sit inside of it. She then places a few of the nearby potted plants into the suitcase (“it’s a matter of aesthetics”), as well as a bowling pin. Eija’s suitcase weighs 84.8kg. Although Jaakko rules that the suitcase must be closed, in order to be considered packed, he awards Eija a participation point.
  • Susani runs to the shed, taking the suitcase with her. She finds a large bundle of heavy ropes, and shoves them into the suitcase, but it does not fully close. She wonders if the suitcase needs to be closed at the end of the task. She then finds some water containers in the shed, fills one off-camera, and places it in the suitcase, on the table. She then places the bundle of ropes on top of the closed suitcase, leaving the suitcase on the table, rather than moving it to the weighing scale. Susani’s suitcase weighs 30.4kg. Despite the fact that she never put the suitcase on the weighing scale, Susani still earns third place.
  • Pirjo places the suitcase on the weighing scale, and asks Pilvi if she would be able to fit inside of it. She then questions whether the suitcase needs to be closed at the end of the task. She tries to get Pilvi into the suitcase, but allows her to get back out again when the suitcase will not close. Pirjo finds some water containers in the shed, but has difficulty filling them from the kitchen sink. Instead, she fills a large pot in the sink, and then pours water from that into the containers. She puts one of the filled containers into the suitcase, adds two ankle weights, and then zips up the suitcase. Pirjo’s suitcase weighs 56.25kg, and she wins the task.
  • Kalle searches the shed, and brings out a heavy toolbox. He puts the toolbox in the suitcase, then adds a few bowling pins. He informs Pilvi that he thought about just standing in the suitcase, but decided against it, as he believes that an open suitcase does not constitute a packed suitcase. Kalle then raids the kitchen pantry for anything he can find that would fit into the remaining space. He accidentally bursts a bag of flour on the edge of the sharp toolbox, and quips that his suitcase might raise some questions when it goes through customs. He has some trouble zipping up his suitcase, but eventually manages, and moves it onto the scale. Kalle’s suitcase weighs 24.25kg, and he earns second place.
