Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

One member of your team must lie on three of the squares and go to sleep.

After they have taken their position, they must not move until the task is over.

Taking it in turn, the other team members must try to land their cushion in each of the three sleep squares.

First team to strike out the sleeper wins.

Task notes

  • The contestants are stood in their teams on either side of a large screen, erected straight down the middle of the stage, and across the middle of a grid consisting of eight columns and four rows (labelled ‘1’ through ‘4’ and ‘A’ to ‘D’, respectively, on either side of the screen).
  • Alex is sat on an umpire’s chair at the back edge of the screen, and has a small chalkboard mounted on either side, so he can keep track of each team’s hits and misses.
  • As the teams decide who will be the sleeper, Alex points out the obvious: that there’s a very similar game already in existence. Greg wonders if the game sounds like “cattle tips”. Lucy belatedly realises that they’re playing human Battleships – though after a short while, she realises that she’s actually thinking of the game Guess Who.
