Task brief

The task brief itself is attached to the railing of the balcony of the Taskmaster house, and is retrieved by the contestants by pulling on a rope attached to it. The brief for the task is as follows:

Pull the rope to drop the duck.

You cannot enter the house.

Fewest rope pulls wins.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The contestants come out to the back of the Taskmaster house to find that 26 buckets have been mounted on the railing of the balcony.
  • Each buck has a rope attached to it, which trails down to the ground, across the fence.
  • Sam Smith, chief task writer for the show, shared on Twitter the most recent list he had of all of the items contained in the buckets (noting that one or two of them might have been changed by production), which were as follows: Anchovy; Balloon; Confetti; Duck toy; Egg; Flour; Glitter; H₂0; Ice cubes; Jigsaw pieces (if you assemble them it says 'Use the 4th'); Keys; Lemon; Mandarin; Nothing; Orange; Paper; QR code (sends you to an image which says 'Use the 4th'); Rice; Streamers; Toilet paper; Umbrella (cocktail umbrella); Video cassette (when played, says 'Use the 4th'); Water; Xylophone; Yoyo; Zucchini.
  • Sam also disclosed on Twitter that the task, although one of his favourites, was not working in the initial edit, and only made it into the show at a late stage.

Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Chris attached a mirror to a big stick so he could see what was in the buckets. He took 36 minutes and pulled 2 ropes, receiving 4 points.
  • Josh attached his phone to a big stick so he could see what was in the buckets, often forgetting which bucket contained the duck. He pulled 1 rope, receiving 5 points.
  • Justine initially pulled yellow ducks before choosing random ropes and guessing the fourth rope as duck has four letters. She pulled 12 ropes, receiving 2 points.
  • Kura found the QR code which, once scanned, said 'Use the fourth'. She pulled 3 ropes, receiving 3 points.
  • Paul pulled random ropes. He pulled 25 ropes, receiving 1 point.
