Task brief
The task brief is suspended on a tie beneath one of three automatic rotating tie racks, attached to the ceiling of the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Tie yourself to the bed.
Most tied-up person wins.
You must be horizontal whilst in the lab.
If you pull down the terrible tie, you are disqualified.
Your time starts now.
Task notes
- Directly beneath the tie racks, there is a folding camping bed set up on the floor of the lab, which Alex instructs the contestants to lie down on, as they enter the lab.
- Beneath the camping bed, there are several poles with hooks on the ends, which the contestants can use to reach the ties.
- Among the many ties on the tie racks, there are four which have Welsh phrases written on them, which Alex claims are his “family mottos”. One has a green background, and the motto written on it is ‘Gwybod be ti eisiau a chael yr hyder i fynd amdani.’ (‘Know what you want and have the confidence to go after it.’), which Alex claims he wore on his stag night, and which appears to be an intentional reference to John Kearns’ business card from the ‘The thing you most want on a Sunday morning’ task. One has a yellow background, and the motto written on it is ‘Peidiwch wylior cloc; gwna beth maen gwneud. Cario ymlaen!’ (‘Don't watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going!’), which Alex claims he wore on his wedding day. The third has a purple background, and the motto written on it is ‘Bydd person hapus, yn gwneud eraill yn hapus.’ (‘Whoever is happy, will make others happy too.’). The fourth has a red background, and the motto written on it is ‘Dyma’r tei ofnadwy.’ (‘This is the terrible tie.’), which Alex claims is his dad’s tie.
