Task brief

The task brief is found on a table in the barn. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get all these things to do their thing at the same time.

The teeth must chatter, the marble must roll, the cradle must rock, the top must spin, the sand must pour, the spinner must spin, and the monsters must sit down.

Blow out the candle when you think you’re done.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts on David’s signal.

Task notes

  • Also on the table are a marble run course, a pair of chattering teeth, a Newton’s cradle, a spinning top, a fidget spinner, an hourglass, two pop-up toy monsters, and a small cake with a candle in it.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Johar decides to learn how long each item takes, so he can plan out his strategy. He apparently takes a while doing this, as David reminds Johar that the task is timed. After a few attempts, Johar is able to get everything doing what it needs to do. However, David overrules his solution by declaring that it does not count if Johar holds the pop-up monsters down. Johar declares the monsters to be his nemeses. He decides that the order he is following seems to be a good one, but that he needs to leave the monsters until last. Indeed, Johar’s next attempt is successful, and he completes the task in 7 minutes and 22 seconds, earning third place.
  • Nikki is delighted by the pop-up monsters, and asks David where he got them. After a few false starts, Nikki wonders if she should light the candle before starting any of the other items, in order to save time at the end. Of all of the contestants, Nikki seems to be the only one having fun with the task – or, at least, not outwardly showing her frustration at it. After several more failed attempts, Nikki finally manages a successful run after 7 minutes and 16 seconds, and earns second place.
  • Henrik’s strategy for the pop-up monsters is to soak the suction cups with his saliva, in order to keep them stuck to the table longer. However, this does not seem to work for him. He moves on to a strategy that involves him preparing several items and holding them down with his hand, so he can release them simultaneously. Using this method, Henrik is eventually successful after 4 minutes and 58 seconds, winning the task.
  • Linnéa’s first attempt involves her activating each of the objects in order, from her left to her right. This nearly works for her, but one of the items stops before she can get to the candle. She decides to hold the monsters down with her fingers to keep them from popping up, but quickly realises that this prevents her using both of her thumbs, so she settles for just holding one. David apparently informs her (off-camera) that her attempt will not count if she is holding the monsters down herself, as she is not shown holding the monsters down on subsequent attempts. At the end of what Linnéa believes to be a successful attempt, David gleefully points out that she never started the marble running. Linnéa responds by telling David to tone down his happiness at her misfortune. The next footage of Linnéa is of her successfully completing the task after 10 minutes and 43 seconds, earning fourth place.
  • Marko looks over the objects, and determines his order of operations based on how long he believes everything will run, once activated. His first attempt is almost successful, but David declares that Marko blew the candle out just after the teeth had stopped chattering. This hits Marko hard, as every subsequent attempt appears to be less successful than the last. On his final attempt, Marko blows out the candle just as one of the monsters pops up. He declares his attempt successful, but David seems unconvinced. He tells Marko that he will stop the clock, if that is what Marko wants, but that slow-motion VAR may prove the attempt was unsuccessful. After agonising over the decision, Marko says he has completed the task. In the studio, David reveals that Marko considered the task completed after 3 minutes and 43 seconds. The video replay proves that Marko had blown out the candle just before the monster popped up. Marko celebrates his win, until David points out that the teeth had already stopped while Marko was blowing out the candle. Marko seems genuinely upset at the news, but earns a participation point.
