Task brief
The task brief is laid next to an egg on a model of a pastoral scene which has been set up on a table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Build the highest sand bridge above the river.
Your sand bridge must be able to support the weight of the egg.
The egg must be able to pass under the sand bridge.
You may not leave the room.
You have 20 minutes.
Highest sand bridge wins.
Your time starts now.
Task notes
- There is a river running through the pastoral scene, which also features a barn, a wooden horse, and some model trees.
- On two smaller tables flanking the large table are two buckets: one containing water, and the other containing sand.
- Hidden inside the table, if the contestants notice the clue in the form of the wooden horse, are a variety of colourful building supplies which are not actually that useful for constructing a tall bridge.
- Lasse reveals, in the studio, that photos of the contestants’ bridges had been shown to the audience in attendance at the previous episode’s recording, when the contestants were absent, and the audience had been asked whether they would describe each of them as a ‘sand bridge’. It is therefore by audience consensus that Lasse is able to judge whether each given bridge could be considered to meet the objective of the task.
